Purpose and Use Cases

The purpose of Process Builder is to make the P4 Platform fully configurable and extendable without modifying the source code.
It allows users to design, execute, and evolve manufacturing applications directly inside the platform — combining logic, user experience, and data into one cohesive framework.

Instead of requiring developers to hardcode processes, Process Builder enables business and technical consultants to:

  • Model data-driven logic using the Flow Builder.

  • Define interactive behavior through Widgets.

  • Compose application pages and dashboards with Layouts.

  • Structure the overall navigation and hierarchy using Application Structure.

Each of these layers can be edited live and deployed immediately. The result is a living system where applications continuously evolve alongside operational needs.

Strategic Role

Process Builder sits at the core of P4’s universality. It turns the platform from a predefined APS/MES/CMMS suite into an adaptable framework that can represent virtually any industrial workflow — from production tracking to maintenance, logistics, or quality management.

It also acts as the foundation for AI-driven automation. Because every process, variable, and interaction is represented as structured metadata, the Artoo assistant can interpret user intent and execute or even create new process definitions automatically.

Typical Use Cases

  1. Designing process logic

    • Automating workflows such as “approve maintenance order” or “recalculate production schedule.”

    • Connecting data entities and ensuring transactional consistency without manual coding.

  2. Building custom user interfaces

    • Creating dashboards, reports, and forms using widgets and layouts tailored to specific user roles or KPIs.

  3. Defining full application modules

    • Structuring an entire Maintenance or Production module by composing pages, assigning layouts, and managing navigation.

  4. Integrating automation and AI

    • Allowing Artoo to trigger flows, update data, or generate new processes in response to natural language commands.

  5. Partner and consultant enablement

    • Providing implementers with the ability to configure entire applications — logic, UI, and structure — without needing engineering support.

Outcome

With Process Builder, manufacturing software shifts from static and developer-dependent to adaptive and business-driven.
Each organization can evolve its digital environment continuously, guided by operational data and front-line experience rather than code releases or development cycles.
